The first time I saw Matcha powder in Canada (after a trip to Japan) was in a Chinese grocery store. I balked at the price – $20 for about a pound. I quickly returned to purchase it after I found the price was tripled in most health food/ specialty stores. Next time, try your local chinese grocer.

Oh–and I have to add, when I first discovered bubble tea, I didn’t realized all those flavors were powders. I was disappointed when I found out! First I thought it must be quite amazing to be a bubble tea bartender…but alas, just powder :)

That is the best looking stack of food ever! I actually just posted a similar idea, but baked the matcha pancakes in mini muffin cups: http://www.muffintinmania.com/2011/12/matcha-pancakes.html
Don’t forget that matcha is also awesome for straight-up drinking.

Sonia, I am dying to try these pancakes! I picked up some Matcha a few months back and I made a coconut green tea cake and numerous smoothies with it. Amazing. I love how you’ve garnished them with black soy beans! So creative. And the photos are gorgeous as always.

Since today is Mardi Gras/Pancake Tuesday I just had to share this recipe with my readers. You can find it in this recipe round-up: http://www.munchinwithmunchkin.com/2012/02/21/happy-mardi-gras/

    Thanks so much for sharing!

Wow…these look great. Could you tell me the name of the store where you got the tea? I’m in Ottawa and maybe there’s a branch? If not, I’ll try our local Asian store. Claire @ The Food Refashionista.

These pancakes are inspirational! I found your site online and once I read these pancakes I knew I have to try them! I ordered the Matcha online as I live in Germany and it is not something you can find at the regular store. It also took me three stores to hunt down Coconut Flour! I am waiting anxiously for the Matcha to come in so I can make these delicious looking pancakes!!!!

One more quick question- do you think Coconut Flour would work in Matcha Muffins as well?
