When I went to New York last summer, I went out of my way to get to Jacques Torres’ Chocolate Shop to buy some of his Wicked Hot Chocolate.

I hadn’t tasted it until yesterday. Yep. Yesterday night seemed like a good “Hot Chocolate Night”. Well, let me tell you, for the first time in my life, I felt like maybe I wasn’t going to be able to finish a sweet treat. I am a sugar junkie and I have never had a problem eating anything that’s extremely sweet. I mean, eating it all and wanting more after. Sugar pie? Bring it on! Brownies? OMG, no problem. I could eat the whole pan. You get the picture? But this stuff, wow, it was soooo sweet and rich and creamy and decadent, I could barely finish the cup.

Mind you, I did go a little overboard. The instructions say to bring half a cup of milk to a simmer and to add a quarter of a cup of hot chocolate mix, stir until melted and share with a friend. So technically, that would make 3/4 of a cup of hot chocolate for 2 people. I thought Jacques must’ve been kidding! That’s way too little. If I’m going to indulge, give me something to indulge with! So I made 2 cups of milk and 1 cup of chocolate for 2 people. That seemed reasonable. NOT! That was way too much. So next time, I will cut that in half. At least!

It was very good hot chocolate though. The kind that you almost have to chew. So thick. So rich. So creamy. So sweet. So good! Sooooooo loaded with calories! But hey, it’s Christmas, isn’t it?
