Many years ago, I probably would’ve been out there, arguing that there’s simply no way this slow cooker smoked ham recipe could be healthy or good for you in any way, shape or form. To me back then, everything about it pretty much was synonymous with the total opposite of that!

Thank goodness I now know better! I don’t have to deprive myself of one of my favorite Easter traditions anymore. Indeed, I think that so long as you source your smoked ham well, or even better yet, smoke your very own ham, and then use organic, 100% pure maple syrup (I’m so blessed that this heavenly nectar would be so easy to come across in my neck of the woods) as well as a good, all natural pale ale (why not encourage your local micro-brewery by the same token?) to very slowly cook your ham in, there’s no reason why you should stay away from this delicacy!

And if you think that you’re not so big on ham, don’t let that stop you from giving this recipe a try… For years, I used to feel bad about making ham for Easter because my daughter, she doesn’t care for it at all. And who wants to serve their loved ones something they don’t like on such special occasions, right? Well, the funny thing is that she would be the one who introduced me to this recipe a coupe of years ago, and, while she still doesn’t care for ham, she can’t get enough of this particular one.

HA! Mom couldn’t be happier! Not only did I get to put my beloved ham back on the Easter menu, but I also get to enjoy the juiciest, tastiest most tender ham in the world. Win-Win!

Everybody’s happy, and I get the feeling that you will be too!

Another reason why this recipe will no doubt become a favorite is it’s ease of preparation: it requires so very little effort on your part. Honestly, in no more than 5 minutes, you’ll be set and ready to cook this baby. And probably out of the kitchen, too! Plus, chances are that after making it just this once, you’ll never again need the recipe, either…

To start, remove the net from the ham, if one is present, and trim off excess fat, if any…

Place the ham cut side down in the slow cooker and baste it with Dijon mustard. Then, add the cloves, beer, maple syrup and water to the slow cooker.

Cooked smoked ham in a slow cooker being checked for doneness with a fork

Cover and cook on high for about 8 hours or until the ham is fork-tender and practically falls apart when you pull at it with a fork.

That’s it! You’re pretty much done. How easy was that, right?

Now remove the ham from the slow cooker and let it cool slightly, then slice or break into pieces.

Lastly, strain the cooking juices and serve them with the ham. By all means, don’t go throwing those away… they taste like pure heaven! Try drizzling a little bit on your mashed potatoes

OH! So good, you’ll die! (well, figuratively speaking… you know!)
